The Looking Glass... come on in!
the idea for this page came from the fact that I have an instagram but I barely ever go on it. I also have a tumblr but I'm hesitent to post photos on such a public platform. This is just meant to be a cute space for me to put all my photos no matter how old they are, most are unedited aside from cropping.

Got to see these handlooms in action!!
I'm a huge textile nerd so this was such a cool experience, definetly the hightlight of my trip. Sri Lanka has a rich handloom textile history which is in real danger of dying out. It was so cool to see these master craftspeople just as passionate about textiles as I am. From an ethics persepective it was also such a valuble experience, the textile industry tends to be really shady and I have no idea who made the majority of my wardrobe and under what conditions. The shirt I bought there is one of my favorite items of clothing because I got see exactly where it was made and MEET some of the people involved in the process which I believe is an essential step to creating a more ethical textile industry. I'm obviously not associated with Sooriya but I genuinly reccomend it if you find yourself in Waligama, 'ethical tourism' is a buzzword that gets thrown around a lot but I think this is really an example of it (or as close as we can get in the current society.
